7. From Pasture to Balm: How Suet Becomes Skincare
Not all suet is ready to go straight into a jar—and that’s a good thing.
The process of transforming raw suet into skin-loving tallow is as important as the ingredient itself.
It starts with the raw suet: firm, white fat found around the kidneys of grass-fed cows. This specific fat is prized for its purity and nutrient density. We source ours from organic Irish cattle raised on pasture, where they live naturally and eat the way nature intended.
Once harvested, the suet goes through a careful rendering process—this is where raw fat is gently heated to separate out the pure, usable oil. We don’t rush this. Low and slow is key. Rendering at high heat can degrade nutrients and alter the structure of the fat, but when done properly, the result is a golden, creamy tallow that retains all its beneficial compounds.
After rendering the suet, we don’t just filter it once and call it done. We go through the full cycle—rendering, filtering, and cooling—four times. Each round is done slowly, with low heat and plenty of time to cool in between. This extra care helps remove impurities and softens the natural beef scent, while keeping all the rich, skin-loving nutrients intact. No bleaching, no chemical processing—just traditional methods done right.
Then it’s blended with other thoughtfully sourced ingredients—like organic cold-pressed olive oil, organic cold-pressed jojoba, virgin beeswax, and organic raw Irish honey—each one chosen for a reason, not just a label. The final result is a balm that melts on contact, nourishes deeply, and stays as close to nature as possible.
No shortcuts. No industrial chemicals. No mystery steps.
Just a clean, respectful process that honors the ingredient—and your skin.
